You are watching: Do john deere gators have titles

I was told John Deere does not participate in the use of a (TITLE ) When there is a purchase of one of their UTV vehicles like other major brands do. And that a bill of sale was used when buying John Deere. Does anyone know much about this issue? Just sounds a little weird to me

Perhaps a John Deere tractor does not have a title? I believe a UTV/ATV is required.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This issue may vary from state to state. In my state (LA) there is now a title and a little sticker license plate issued like atv"s get. My first gator I bought back in 2011 it was just the bill of sale. (Just like a tractor) It does not make it road legal though. Just identification and theft deterant is what I was told. So that basically translates to, another way for Louisiana to make money because we now have a license plate renewal every 4 years

title or bill of sale only shows ownership, it has nothing todo with registration,,, every state has their own rules for what needs to be registered or not, and when you go to register the atv or utv you just bring whatever paperwork that shows you own it either a tittle or bill of sale or scribble on a napkin...I have 2 atvs registered and all you get is a license plate and yearly sticker you put on a corner of the plate...
As previously said, the law varies by state. Georgia does not issue titles or registration stickers of any kind for ATVs and UTVs.
John Deere mails all dealers a Certificate of Origin for any gator invoice to their dealership. This was a practice they started in 2012. Whether or not the dealer is required to do anything with them is up to their local state/county rules. All gators come with a Certificate of Origin straight from the factory.

I bought my first Gator in 2014 and received a Certificate of Origin. I bought a second Gator about three months ago, and the dealer told me that John Deere no longer issues certificates. So far, that seems to be the case. I haven"t received one directly from JD or from the dealer.
Well you may have to ask the dealer! I am under the impression that John Deere sends one out regardless of whether your state requires you to title or not. If you would like one, they can also request one (if in fact John Deere didnt send them one).

In Wisconsin I did receive a Certificate of Origin when I purchased a 2014 Gator. I was told that if the vehicle is used only on private property no registration/license is required...only if used for trail riding etc on public property.

Since one isn"t needed here to buy, sell or trade ATVs/UTVs, I"m not going to bother with trying to get a certificate. I have my bill of sale and have the serial number recorded.

We never received a Certificate of Origin but we still have a loan on it because of the cheap insurance they offer while it it is under loan. Will they send the Certificate of Origin when we pay it off do you know? We may sell it, and wondering if we need paperwork for them. This is a 2018 RSX860. Thanks. Asked 2 different sales reps and got 2 different answers.

Odd that you were not provided the Certificate of Origin. It"s required if your state has UTV licensing for off road or county roads, etc. That cert along with the bill of sale is what the license people verified the serial number with to then title the unit in your name. Like a car, if there is a loan on it, that winds up on the registration as well. When paid off, you get the pink slip.
