I just heard this for the first time (I know, I"m ridiculously late). I LOVE IT. Sucks that I got into it as soon as it started going down.

Who thinks this will achieve recurrency? I think it"s possible, I would like it to, but realistically I don"t think it"ll quite make it.

You are watching: Come on get higher song meaning

LOL I love how z100 advertises this as "new music" when it"s like a year old and they played it 2 months ago...
Yeah I think Z100 originally canned Halo, The Climb, and Come On Get Higher when that CBS station was launched...really hopin this can give Matt a slight boost into the high teenagers (Prob. is some stations have been playin it since late last summer, so the timing just isn"t workin for a high peak...hopin for a big longevity thing though)
LMAO I love wikipedia:The song is about his sexual experiences with the love of his life. "Come On Get Higher" refers to the feelings he has with a woman while having sex. Most people are left to assume he is referring to his wife Bridget. However, only Nathanson and Mark Weinberg, who co-wrote the song, know its true meaning. In one line of the song, Nathanson says "I see angels and devils and God when you come", but he backs it up with "come on" so that people do not notice the sexual content. This is typical of Nathanson, who is known for his sense of humor.
^I actually thought it was about him bein physically separated from his lover (or wife), and fantasizing about them sleepin together right then (i. e. I Miss The Sound Of Your Voice...The Loudest Thing In My Head...something about Remembering all the Violent/Sweet Perfect Words That You Said - If I Could Walk On Water...Make You Believe...etc.)BTW anyone that doesn"t pick up on the "God when you come on..." thing has gotta have their head examined lol
^Yeah IMO it"s really not clear til the middle of the song (which AT40 cuts out lol)...he does keep sayin "Pull me down hard" in the chorus though

I own the original version and still never got it. lol. And I am all about sexual references in songs, I can"t believe I missed this one. I guess I am too used to more overt ones.
This is my favorite Nathanson song. At first it seems like a simple "I miss you" song but there"s a lot of religious imagery here that makes me wonder if he"s getting at something regarding faith and spirituality.
Just saw Matt last night at Hotel Cafe playing all new material and he introduced the song saying he can"t go into the real meaning on the radio because the stations get fined, so he explains it as:"Did you ever eat a bowl of ice cream that was just the best f**king ice cream you"ve ever eaten? And it"s so good it makes your teeth hurt and you can"t stop eating it and you just want to pull that ice cream"s hair and slap its ass and really bruise it up and make it hurt a little bit. That"s what this song"s about. I think I just wrote an R. Kelly song."
this song makes me really think. && its about stuff that i dont want to think about.it reminds me of cody.but oh well.i never noticed it was about sex until you said something.lol.but i didnt know shake it by metrostation was about that either until erik pointed it out....
Matt Nathanson says the album is about intimacy. This songs about wanting to be with someone and, basically, have lots of sex with them.Hold me down hard, loosen my lips He wants her to literally hold him down hard and kiss him. And he could also mean he wants her to push him to open up to her. It could be a reference to the idea that most men need sexual intimacy to really experience emotional intimacy with a woman. Hell talk more if she holds him down hard. The swing of her hips is going to get farther than any words she might say.and I ache to remember all the violent, sweet, perfect words that you said. Hes trying to remember a conversation that they had. Maybe she blew him away during their first conversations, and he wishes he remembers all the sweet things that she said. All he remembers is that it was violent, in that it had such an extreme impact that she changed life as he knew it.I think hes making references to tantric sex all through the song:You breathe out and I breathe in Shared breathing is a common exercise in tantric sex.Get higher- Reference to spirituality.Faith and desire- Combining the ideas of spirituality and sexuality.I see angels and devils and god when you come (on). This is a reference to the tantric concept of a union between god and man during sexual climax.when you come.on..Hold on.hold on.hold on.ahhhhhhh. This is a reference to an attempt at simultaneous orgasm, a common goal of practitioners of tantric sex.Ahhhhhhh.. Sing sha la la la. Post-orgasmic bliss.
this song just makes me realize how amazing my relationship is, and now i really wanna go have sex with my incredible boyfriend...lol
i can just imagine him making passionate love to his guitar when he gets into this. you can tell he loved this girl and he loves what he does. music, i mean.
