You are watching: 2003 dodge ram 1500 pcv valve location

Hi guys,I"m the new guy on the block and I have a question.I"ve been looking hi and low but to no avail.Where is the PCV valve located on a 2005 Dodge 1500 5.7L HEMI?Apparently the valve is in a different location for each year and model of a Dodge truck.Great site, by the way! Thanks,Mike
Wow, we took that off and it didn"t look like the valve that I bought at O"Reilly"s.And, when I called a Dodge dealer, the shop manager said that the valve was located to the RIGHT of the throttle body with a hose connected to it.
That is it. Twist it counter-clockwise to loosen until it kind of "pops" out. There is an o-ring on it so once you feel it you will know what I mean. Pull up and discard. Place new one in and turn clockwise until it seats. It will be a little easier if you place some fresh oil on the o-ring of the new PCV valve. There are a couple notches on the PCV valve that fits into the opening. It really is a 15 minute job at most.

P.S. I used an extended pipe wrench to grab a hold of the flat tab to turn it since my paws were too big to get in there to turn it. Worked great. Getting it off was the toughest. Install I could do with my fingers once I oiled up the o-ring a little.

So the valve looks nothing like the one they sold me at O"Reilly"s?Like an L-shaped PCV?And, can I only buy this valve at the dealer?thanks,Mike

I would picked up at the dealer. When I replaced mine on my 04, I ordered it from Art at Henson"s Motors.Sil
Nope, I could not find it anywhere except the dealer. I think it cost about $28. Look at the pic above. It is the round thingy with the twist tab on top. That whole circle comes out of the black plastic box thingy. It really is very easy. You just have to remove the hemi hat first. Actually you do not have to fully remove it, just loosen it up enough to twist and replace that darn valve.

That"s your boy. I agree with the others, a simple cleaning with brake cleaner, shake it out good, put a little oil on the o-ring and reinstall it....and no, every year isn"t different.

Before you buy a new PCV valve...Remove the old PCV valve, shake it and see if it rattles. If you can hear or feel the little ball rattling around inside, then the PCV valve is good and I wouldn"t bother spending the money to replace it.
I am about to clean my throttle body and install a Vararam, so I decided to just replace my PCV valve while I was in there. I just ordered one from NAPA this morning. I didn"t realize you could clean them and reuse them if they are good. Isn"t it still a good idea to replace them every so often or did I just waste my money?
From what I have always read cleaning them doesn"t really do sh_t and doesn"t mean they are working right. But then again that could be hearsay the parts makers say to get you to buy new stuff. lol
rattle test aint true there not but 8 bucksmine rattled and I had oil in my air filtertoss that $hitOil going through your intake is not kewl

If it were eight bucks, it would be a no brainer.Fact is, I checked around and the cheapest I found was NAPA and I paid $29.00. That"s the most expensive PCV valve I"ve ever heard of. Really, I didn"t even know if I needed to replace it but at 40,000 miles and putting on a new intake, I figured now"d be a good time to do it.

Here is the valve w/ part numbers on the box and bag.I also added a pic of where the PCV valve is located, right next to the intake/throttle body.

I didn"t notice you had a 4.7. Yep, that"s the difference.Yours looks like the more traditional PCV valve with a much nicer price!
