What is the best means to go about an altering engine oil ~ above a 01 sportsman 500 ho? I"ve to be doing some reading online and also I have heard about priming the oil system? What"s that about? you can drain the seperate tank (under left front tires fender) there is no a problem.. Yet the crankcase bolt under is a huge issue I"ve heard.. My brother told me to not touch the bolt as he go a oil adjust on a 400 sportsman and said something around it losing pressure? Anyway, shortly after the engine began knocking, which we all recognize what that method :/ everyone have any type of pointers?

The best way is to leave the hose alone....if you don"t fool through the hose and also just drainpipe the tank and leave the crankcase bolt alone also, you will certainly never have to prime the system. Over there is very small oil in the crankcase due to the fact that its a dried sump system. For this reason just drainpipe the tank and readjust the filter and fill the tank up through fresh oil and your done. Forget about priming the system....since if friend don"t mess v that water tap or the screen filter girlfriend wont have actually to. Its been reported that the screens are constantly clean...so its no worth the to shot to take it out and clean it

That"s what i was thinking.. My brother made that mistake and also warned me that it however I want to gain a second opinon.. I"ve never heard of anything prefer that before, i don"t understand why Polaris would architecture something choose that? I very own a 04 Yamaha yfz (sport quad) and also has the seperate oil tank as well and also oil in the crankcase. That doesn"t to speak anything around having to element the oil system in the manuel.. Ns don"t know why Polaris would carry out such a thing?
Like Vandal said...forget around all that hocus pocus BS. Drain the tank. Readjust the filter. Pour 2 quarts of oil earlier in the tank and also go riding. Must take every of about 30 minutes at the most unless you want to grease it also while your"re at it then allow about 45.
Have never "cleaned" or drained the eng block on our 05 500 and it sounds choose the regular 500"s do. As well many world worry about that priming thing, drain the tank and readjust the filter and also ride.

Dry sump oil drainpipe solutionPolo 500s (and several other models) have dry sump oiling systems not too much unlike some cars like say Porsche. Purpose it to enable full oiling if the engine isn"t exactly sitting still and perhaps in ~ odd angle pushing oil away from oil intake. Its no a good idea to just drainpipe the tank and include 2 quarts cuz there w/b 1/2 an extra pint left in "dry sump". Therefore either drain the sump (PITA), only add 1.75 quarts or try the an approach below. What i"ve been doing for a couple years now i learned native OPT end at ATVConnection, he"s a retirement Polo technology who gained the idea native a Polo engineer.Drain tank, change bolt, start engine for just 10 seconds/stop, drain tank again, change filter/oil and also go! No priming is required (no one appears to ever uncover anything on that window screen "filter"!) and also no engine knock, noise or whatever. The 10 secs will remove the 1/2 pint come the tank and also the great oil you"ve been making use of is still coating the internals long sufficient to carry out lube protection. For this reason Simple. :cowboy:
